Affordable ICT equipment for social projects in the South
Close the Gap evaluates and selects projects that focus on both the individual and his or her community. The selected projects can cover various fields, such as education, health, environment, microfinance, research, socio-cultural, and good governance. Close the Gap supports projects in developing and emerging countries all around the world, and mostly in Africa. This support is not free of charge.

Selection criteria
Close the Gap selects projects based on several factors:
- The existence of a local infrastructure allowing the installation of computers (electricity, security, etc.)
- Local capacities (IT knowledge, training opportunities, etc.)
- The servicing plan
- The added value the use of IT equipment would bring to the project.
- Budget available to cover the refurbishing costs for the hardware (found on the product information form and the project application form), as well as costs for transportation and customs duties.
Further below, you find a visual process description.
Your project
Please fill in the project application form in English or in French.
This will give us a better understanding of your project’s expected results and needs. It is very important that we ascertain the feasibility and sustainability of the project.
Please note that collaborations usually start with a minimum of 20 computers.
Close the Gap’s offer
The selected projects are asked to contribute to the refurbishing and transportation costs, unless a partnering company expresses a wish to sponsor a particular project.
Experience has shown that transport fees are often problematic. However, Close the Gap can help project applicants by looking for the most cost-efficient transport solution.
Prices and important information
You will find detailed information about the products and their prices in the product information form in English for International Projects, in English for projects in Belgium, or in French.
Please note that prices are exclusive of VAT (Value Added Tax). The VAT can be refunded if the project coordinator sends us the export documentation proving that the goods have left Europe.
We do not donate hardware free of charge. The refurbishing cost displayed in the files need to be covered at all times, but we do have grant opportunities from partners that allow us to sponsor projects from time to time. If you wish to benefit from this, please note this in your application and we will get back to you in due time.
Your project is accepted – great!
If your project is selected and you went through all the necessary import paperwork, we will send you an invoice.
After payment, the goods are prepared by our refurbishing partner. The goods can be collected by the transport company chosen by the project coordinator four weeks later. The equipment is delivered Ex Works.
If you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
