Description

Thanks to our valuable partnerships and the donations we receive, we are able to support beautiful projects worldwide. On this page, we focus on some projects in South Africa.

Let's have a look at some of our projects in South Africa!

Goedgedacht Care for the Planet

Our operations permitted us to support the Care for the Planet team at Goedgedacht with new refurbished tablets and laptops. As one can cleary see on the picture below, they were very happy and excited with them!

The Care For The Planet team.

Care for the Planet develops creative ways to encourage rural communities to care for the planet, while also taking ownership for their communities, especially their food security at a household and community level.

PeaceJam

We were also able to support PeaceJam in South Africa with tablets for the young people there.

PeaceJam is a global youth organization, led by 14 Nobel Peace Laureates, dedicated to create a generation of young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities and the world. They do so through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates, and the spirit, skills, and wisdom they embody.

Thanks to Earl Mentor for making this possible!

Chrysalis Academy

Chrysalis Academy is a holistic development institute for disadvantaged youth, unleashing their potential by teaching them a variety of skills and therapeutic sessions and linking them to sustainable employment. Our local representative had the chance to visit Chrysalis and was very impressed. She got to see their computer labs, dorms and fire fighting & police academy students.

Chrysalis also bought refurbished laptops through Close the Gap, which their staff and students started using in May 2022!

Hou Moed Foundation

The Hou Moed Centre, founded by Theo Demeyer,  is situated in Hermanus, South Africa. It is a popular haven for many of the youth living is this previously disadvantaged residential area. It is also one of the very few places where they are provided with development and recreational opportunities.

As a birthday gift, Close the Gap donated pre-owned, refurbished laptops to Theo Demeyer's lovely, ambitious "adopted" grandkids in Zwelihle township: Mbalintle, Imange and Awongile. Now they can finally do their homework from home!

Other projects

Another beautiful project Close the Gap South Africa has been part of in 2021, and continuing to be in 2022, is MIT ReACT. We were also able to support the Belgian Chamber of Commerce for South Africa with IT devices, an independent, not-for-profit organization that seeks to promote bilateral business relations between the Southern Africa countries and Belgium, unleash Belgian entrepreneurship, and connect like-minded professionals. They will start using the IT devices very soon!
